The Engineering and Technology Management (ETM) department of Portland State
University (PSU) and Al-Ain University of Science and Technology are pleased to
announce the new ETM-Abu Dhabi Program. This program will allow students
residing in the Middle East region to earn a Master’s of Science degree in
technology management by attending Portland State University courses, offered in
a shorter, concentrated format, at Al-Ain University in Abu Dhabi.
The ETM-Abu Dhabi Program will prepare engineers and scientists in the Middle
East for global leadership responsibilities in managing rapidly changing
technologies throughout the world. The master’s degree has been carefully
designed to combine lectures, cases, projects and discussions with examples from
operational and strategic decisions and policy issues in technology-driven
environments.
The Engineering and Technology Management (ETM) department is internationally
recognized for combining excellence in teaching with practical applications. ETM
has a strong reputation for providing students with the best of both worlds – a
firm foundation in the creation of value through engineering and technology
combined with a sound management education.
The ETM-Abu Dhabi Program consists of thirteen 4-credit courses, including a
Master’s project. The courses offered in Abu Dhabi to fulfill the 52-credit
degree requirement will be identical to those offered in Portland, but in a
concentrated format. Each month (except for July and August),
department-appointed faculty will travel to Abu Dhabi to deliver lectures in an
intense format over a one-week period at the beginning of each month. Students
then will return home, and have three weeks to prepare their projects and to
study for a final written exam. At the end of the month, they will return to Abu
Dhabi to present their project reports and take the exam. The next course will
begin on the following day, so students may stay in Abu Dhabi and participate in
that course.
Students electing to take one course each month should finish the degree
requirements at the end of 15 months. It is not required that students take the
courses in order but, because each course is offered only once a year, missing
courses will delay the completion of the degree. With careful planning, however,
it is possible to take time off between courses and complete the degree in a
timely fashion.
After completing the degree requirements, candidates will receive their Master’s
degree from Portland State University. Graduates may participate in a formal
commencement ceremony in Abu Dhabi or in Portland.
Portland State University is the largest university in Oregon, with more than
25,000 students majoring in engineering, sciences, business administration,
public administration, social work, arts, and education. Al-Ain University of
Science and Technology is a leader in the Middle East in providing state-of-the
art facilities for educating future leaders.
