ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS
for
Department of Engineering and Technology Management

General University Guidelines
Admission to graduate study is granted on the basis of evidence of suitable preparation and the probability of success in the intended field of study. Failure to supply complete and accurate information will delay the admissions process and subject applicants to the University’s policies governing academic dishonesty.

Application Deadlines
Applications are accepted year-round, and admission to all ETM degree programs can begin at any time throughout the year. However, the chart below indicates the dates by which applications will receive priority review:

How and Where to Submit Application Materials
Portland State University requires two applications (one for the University Admissions Office and one for the Department), and different materials go to different offices.

Materials to go to the University Admissions Office are listed below. More information is available at http://www.pdx.edu/admissions/graduate-admission
1. A completed University Application for Graduate Admission form. Click here to go to the online application.
PhD applicants: the “Major Code” for the PhD in ETM is TECD.
2. A $50 USD non-refundable application fee is required. You will have the opportunity to use a credit card when you finish your online application, but you also may pay by check or money order. Do not send cash.

  • Submit relevant information online at the completion of your online application.

  • To pay by check or money order:
  • Checks and money orders must be in US dollars, made payable to Portland State University. Be sure your name is on the check or money order.

    We strongly recommend sending checks or money orders via a delivery service to ensure prompt receipt.

3. Applicants whose native language is not English, and who have not completed of a bachelor's degree, master's degree or doctoral degree in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand or the US, must submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores from a test taken within the last two years. Scores should be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to the address above. PSU’s institution code for TOEFL is 4610 and department code is 00.
4. Official transcripts from each institute, college, university or post-secondary school attended must be sent directly from the institution to the above address. An official transcript must be in a sealed (closed) envelope and have the institution’s seal, stamp or official’s original signature. Transcripts from countries other than the US must be in the original language and also in a certified English translation. Official copies of any diplomas, degrees and certificates also are required.
5. International applicants also must submit additional materials. More information is at http://www.pdx.edu/admissions/international-graduate-admission.
6. PhD applicants also must submit official GRE scores, current within two years. The desired minimum combined score (Verbal and Quantitative or Verbal and Analytical) is 1100. MS applicants may submit GRE scores, but are not required to.

Materials to go to the ETM Department are listed below.
1. All degree programs are applied for on-line. Click here to go to the on-line application form. PhD applicants: be sure to complete the Research Interests section.
2. For applicants who must show English language proficiency (see the above requirements), copies of TOEFL or IELTS scores must be submitted.
3. Copies of transcripts from each institute, college, university or post-secondary school attended must be sent to the Department at the above address. Transcripts from countries other than the US must be in the original language and also in a certified English translation. Copies of any diplomas, degrees and certificates also are required. Official copies are not required for the Department.
4. Three letters of recommendation are required. After you have submitted the on-line application, you will be able to send electronic recommendation forms to your recommenders. If you prefer, letters from your recommenders may be submitted instead.
5. For PhD applicants, copies of GRE scores also must be submitted.
