The Portland Advantage

Our campus is located in downtown Portland, the Rose City, situated in one of the most beautiful and livable regions in the world. The city serves as a center of an area experiencing explosive growth in the high technology industries that helped nickname it the Silicon Forest. It owes the name to the presence of a large semiconductor community, spearheaded by Intel’s largest site in the world, and on an ocean of pristine forest.

This affords students unparalleled opportunities for professional advancement, as well as unlimited recreational opportunities featuring beaches of the Pacific Ocean, clear waters of myriad of streams, rivers, and lakes, and snow-packed Cascade Mountains.

"Max" is Portland's light rail system. There are also vintage trolleys operating sometimes on weekends. Max and bus transportation downtown are free. There are many venues for music and shows in Portland.

Sternwheelers and small cruise boats carry tourists on the river; some travel by river to the coast or to Idaho, the next state to the east. Multnomah falls is a popular tourist destination. There are many paths through the forest and there is a lodge with a restaurant, lounge and gift shop.

Testimonials from ETM Students:

Sida Zhou

Sida Zhou is a Staff Component Engineer at Intel Corporation, responsible for CAD methodology on performance verification, microprocessor design and developing new CAD tools such as noise analysis.

The ETM experience helped Sida think more broadly and make more intelligent/scientific decisions. "If I had not become an ETM student, I would not have reached the position I embrace today. I benefited tremendously from interaction with students already active in the workplace dealing with the same issues I deal with daily - how to marry technical skills and management skills to help your organization run more profitably, save time and increase productivity."
