ETM in Abu Dhabi

The Department of Engineering and Technology Management (ETM) has signed a formal memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Al Ain University of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi to offer the ETM Department's Master of Science in Technology Management. ETM Department Chair Dundar F. Kocaoglu, who represented Portland State University and signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU), indicated that this new program will be an important element in the Department's overall growth strategy. ETM's New Program Administrator

Since the ETM Department added a Ph.D. in Technology Management to its degree offerings in 2006, enrollments have gone up significantly and are expected to keep rising. Anne Herman was hired recently as the Program Administrator for Ph.D. students. Anne will help establish and guide the Ph.D. process from application to graduation, and she will also help coordinate ETM's outreach programs such as the master's degree being offered in Abu Dhabi starting this fall. Strategic Decisions Lab Under Construction

The office informally known as the "PICMET Office" (FAB 50-02) is being renovated and will soon be the "Strategic Decisions Lab." According to Dept. Chair Dr. Dundar Kocaoglu, the purpose of the lab will be "to conduct studies on strategies of management of technology using computer simulations and to develop new methods for strategic decisions." PICMET '08 in South Africa

"Technology Management for a Sustainable Economy" is the theme for the 2008 Portland International Conference on Management of Engineering and Technology (PICMET). The conference will be held July 27-31, 2008, in Cape Town, South Africa, at the Westin Grand Cape Town Arabella Quays and will feature keynote speakers, research papers and industry applications presentations, tutorials, panel sessions, and a doctoral colloquium. He started his own business in 2004, Sharp Vision Software (www.sharpvisionsoft.com), developing software for customers in Europe and the US in the area of oil and gas. His company is located in Dalian, China, with 20+ employees, and his customers are in the United Kingdom, US, Italy, France, and Germany. [More]
